Hospice of Larimer County (HLC) is excited to announce
that construction has begun on the PATHWAYS building. This 12,000
square foot facility is begin built adjacent to our current building
at 7604 Colland Drive. The PATHWAYS building will be the home
of HLC's programs for for grief and loss which are focused on
providing education, support and resources to anyone in Larimer
County who is grieving the loss of a loved one.
HLC is well known for the specialized physical, emotional
and spiritual care it provides to Larimer County residents and their
families who are faced with an advanced, life-limiting medical condition.
HLC also provides support and education to anyone in our community
who is grieving the loss of a loved one. Last year, Hospice of Larimer
County provided this type of care to more than 4,400 residents in
our community.
Because the demand for grief and bereavement care
continues to grow, HLC is constructing a new facility to house the
PATHWAYS program. In order to fund the construction of the new facility
and the costs associated with purchasing land, furnishing the building
and retiring debt, HLC is conducting a capital campaign. Currently,
more than $2.0 million has been raised thus far to fund the costs
associated with the PATHWAYS project. The fundraising goal of the
capital campaign is $3 million.
The addition of the PATHWAYS building will allow HLC
to expand its grief and bereavement programs to meet the demand
of the Larimer County community. HLC is the only dedicated provider
of professional grief counseling in Larimer County and the need
for these services continues to grow with our community. Census
data indicates that the population in Larimer County grew 35% from
1990 to 2000 and continues to increase at a rate more than 3% annually.
As HLC's programs have grown to meet the community's need for grief
counseling and education, we recognized the need for a broader,
long-term solution.
The new building will be located adjacent to HLC's
current offices, at 7604 Colland Drive, centrally located in Larimer
County. The two buildings will be attached, allowing for flexibility
and growth. The new facility will include a large meeting and education
room that will allow HLC to conduct community education programs
as well as training for professionals (counselors, teachers, caregivers)
on site rather than using other locations. The new building will
also include dedicated counseling spaces for children and young
adults, art therapy, music therapy, and individual and group meetings.
One unique feature will be a commercial-grade kitchen where widowed
persons can come together to share and learn the basics of cooking
for one.
