Grief Support

Grief Support Volunteer

Hospice provides bereavement support for up to 13 months after a patient's death. As a Grief Support Volunteer, you will be a friendly visitor to a family member grieving the loss of a loved one. Additional training in grief issues and active listening is provided.

Time Commitment: Visits are generally 1-2 hour in length on a weekly or biweekly basis. Assignments may last 3, 6 or 12 months.

 

Bereavement Phone Calling

Volunteers contact family member by phone once a month, checking in to see how everyone is coping after the loved one's death. Information is then written on a form that is provided and sent to an HLC grief counselor for further follow-up. This position may be done from you home or office.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month.

 

Children's Grief Support

Assist HLC staff to support Children's Grief Programs. Additional training is provided in issues specific to pediatric grief.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per month.  

 

How to Apply:

1. Fill out and submit the Volunteer Application Packet. You can either email it to Volunteers@hlchospice.org or print it out and send it to: Hospice of Larimer County Attn: Volunteer Services 305 Carpenter Rd. Fort Collins, CO 80525

2. Your name will be put onto a registration list for the next volunteer training. Trainings are offered twice a year, in the spring and fall.

3. After you have completed the training, you will be invited to meet with the volunteer services manager. During this meeting, we will get to know you better.

4. You will be required to complete an OSHA and Confidentiality self-study packet and post-quiz. Background checks and drug tests are required for all volunteers working with patients and families.
